Frequently Asked Questions
HOw do you pronounce your name?
Why are you focusing your research on polar bears?
I am troubled that there are only 20,000 polar bears left on the planet. Polar bears are a keystone species, meaning that they play a very important role in maintaining ecosystem balance in the Arctic habitat. Unfortunately, the Arctic habitat is currently being affected by climate change. As the climate warms, sea ice breaks up earlier than normal requiring the polar bear to swim longer distances to hunt. Polar bears are suffering as a result. Some are drowning and many are starving. As humans, we have the power to make decisions to reverse this trend. It’s not too late…but the time for us to do something is NOW.
As a teacher, I ask my students to think critically about WHY this is an issue and HOW we can work toward a more sustainable future.
I believe in the power and potential of my students to generate creative solutions.
