Scientist Maya Santangelo scooped up this pile of nylon ropes and plastic waste from the shore of an otherwise pristine island in Svalbard.

I recognized that little ice cream spoon. I’ve had plenty of taste tests on just such a spoon - not once considered where it might end up after.
